Internationally experienced conductor, bringing music to life.
Biography
Guilherme Leal Rodrigues is a Brazilian conductor, educator, and researcher whose work bridges symphonic performance, music education, and the promotion of Brazilian and Latin American repertoire. He holds a Ph.D in Music Education with Emphasis in Orchestral Conducting from Florida State University, where he studied with Alexander Jiménez and served as Music Director of the Tallahassee Youth Orchestras.
At FSU, Rodrigues conducted the University Symphony Orchestra and University Philharmonic extensively, and served as assistant conductor of the opera program under Bernard McDonald — leading major productions of works by Stravinsky, Humperdinck, Rossini, and Janáček. His international career includes engagements in Brazil, Venezuela, Italy, and Mexico, including the prestigious Festival de Inverno de Campos do Jordão in São Paulo.
A defining feature of his artistic profile is his commitment to contemporary music and world premieres, including the U.S. premiere of Arthur Barbosa's Variations in Search of a Theme by Matos Rodríguez — the subject of his doctoral research.
